LIVE HASH ROSIN JAM

From cold-cured hash rosin to micron-specific ice water extract, there are multiple textures and consistencies of this product that are different, fun, intriguing, and desirable. Live Hash Rosin Jam is just one of these other forms.
What is Live Hash Rosin Jam?
Live Hash Rosin Jam is an alternative texture of solventless hash rosin that highlights the THCa crystals and terpenes of a particular cultivar. While cold-cured Live Hash Rosin has a batter-like consistency, Live Hash Rosin Jam is a mix of granular THCa crystals (almost like granulated sugar) and a syrupy layer of terpenes. Visual appearance, texture, and the formation of THCa crystals are what draw extractors and consumers alike to this method. The unique consistency is the result of THCa “crashing out” of the cannabinoid-terpene-lipid solution and reforming as crystals ranging in size from a grain of salt to a small diamond.
How is Live Hash Rosin Jam made?
The first few steps of this process are the same as any other kind of hash rosin production. We create an ice water extract from fresh frozen cannabis flower, which is further refined with heat and pressure into hash rosin. From here, the Live Hash Rosin Jam process departs from the more standard “cold cure” method. After we collect, jar, and seal the hash rosin, we place it into the oven and allow it to melt. It is during this melting stage that THCa falls out of solution. When the mixture approaches the right consistency, we remove the jar from the oven and gently warm it for a few more days to allow the THCa crystals to form. The size of the crystals is dependent upon a few factors, such as total THCa in the solution, the cultivar itself, and the length of time allowed for curing.
Consuming Live Hash Rosin Jam
Consumption follows much the same procedure as cold-cured hash rosin, requiring a glass dab rig or electronic concentrate vaporizer. One of the benefits of Live Hash Rosin Jam, however, is that you can portion out your dabs as you like, taking more of the sappy terpene liquid than THCa crystals, more THCa and less terpenes, or fifty-fifty. Much of the joy and novelty of this hash rosin format lies in this ability to experiment and create your own flavor and potency experiences. Be aware that Live Hash Rosin Jam can be a little trickier to work with and will coat the dab tool a bit more. The Puffco Hot Knife works well for this application.
Live Hash Rosin Jam can be one of the most visually stunning versions of solventless extract. It can also be one of the most enjoyable to consume. While there is not much difference from Live Hash Rosin in what makes up the solventless product chemically, the alternative texture can be a fun modality for exploring cannabis consumption. While this is our second foray into the “dabbable” solventless realm, it most certainly will not be our last.
